Foot and ankle

You are here:

Your feet and ankles work day in, day out to support your body weight and help to cushion the impact of standing, walking, running and jumping. They contain around a quarter of all the bones in your body (26 in each foot) plus 33 joints and more than 100 ligaments, tendons and muscles. An average adult walks around 8,000 steps a day. Over a lifetime that’s 100,000 miles – equivalent to walking four times around the world! These hard-working parts of your body can be particularly prone to joint degeneration. And, did you know too, that many systemic diseases like arthritis and gout show up first in your feet and ankles? It makes sense to look after them so they can continue to look after you.

Harley Street Specialist Hospital has a world-class a team of specialist orthopaedic surgeons who specialise in diagnosing and treating all kinds of foot and ankle conditions, ranging from the routine to the highly complex.
