Consultant Orthopaedic & Specialist Knee Surgeon

Professor Adrian Wilson MBBS, BSc (Hons), FRCS, FRCS (Tr & Orth) is a leading specialist knee surgeon. He is renowned for his work in knee osteotomy and complex ligament surgery and he is a key opinion leader on these topics worldwide. He has helped develop surgical instruments and pioneer procedures for the treatment of sporting injuries, notably, the ‘All Inside Technique’ for both ACL and PCL surgery. These have become the gold standard globally. He also helped to pioneer the procedure for Anterolateral ligament reconstruction. As well as reconstruction Prof Wilson has helped to pioneer the technique for ACL repair in both children and adults. He has a particular interest in sports knee surgery in both children and adults.

As a result of his interest in Children’s knee conditions he has established the Children’s Knee Clinic. Professor Wilson and his team have published a landmark clinical paper on preserving children’s ACL after injury.

Professor Wilson is also focused on knee preservation and as a result has become a pioneer and key opinion leader in the field of knee osteotomy surgery. He has developed several new techniques, instruments and implants to make this surgery less invasive and to offer a better outcome and quicker recovery to patients undergoing this surgery. He published his own 10 year outcome data in April 2020 for femoral osteotomy which is the largest series to be followed up at 10 years with 89% of patients still doing well at this time. Read more.

He co-founded the first UK knee osteotomy registry (UKKOR) and founded The London Knee Osteotomy Centre with Mr Raghbir Khakha, Mr Kristian Kley and Mr Ronald van Heerwaarden. He jointly set up and runs an annual Knee Osteotomy Masterclass for surgeons, who travel from across the globe to attend and has introduced new surgical instruments for osteotomy and developed a minimally invasive technique for high tibial osteotomy surgery.

The London Knee Osteotomy Centre is recognised for the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery & Arthroscopy (ESSKA) Osteotomy travelling fellowship and domestic and international observers are regularly welcomed.

Professor Wilson is Visiting Professor at University of Winchester’s Sport & Exercise department and sits on the ESSKA arthroscopy and ESSKA osteotomy committees.
